Onkilahti Park is a popular outdoor area for the city's residents all year round.
This open landscape park is located around Onkilahti Bay. The area also features an activity park with beach volleyball courts, a petanque court, and an exercise station designed for seniors. There are also playgrounds for children. Onkilahti Park is a popular spot for fishing as well.
The park includes a barbecue area for picnics (bring your own firewood or charcoal).
There are several seating areas and a gazebo near the water for relaxing.
Within the park, there is a labyrinth built as a pollinator garden for insects, as well as fruit trees and berry bushes.
The Vasa Skatepark is also centrally located in the Onkilahti activity park.
Art in the park!
The memorial Elämän tie (The Path of Life) dedicated to author Venny Kontturi is located near Käsityöläiskatu. The piece was designed and created by artist Marita Perttula.
In the lawn area stands Vera, a sculpture by visual artist Lucien den Arend. The artwork consists of a large circular steel disc that is split in the middle, with the halves bent apart. The piece is made of steel painted red.
The artworks After the Storm and The Moon’s Mirror are created by artists Marianne Kanckos, Åke Rodas, and Stig Rönn. These pieces are located on the Palosaari side of the shoreline.
