Bergqvist's house

Bergqvist's house
Built between 1841 and 1842, the house is located in the merchant quarter. In the early decades of the 1900s, the street was home to numerous shops. The house gets its name from merchant Lennart Bergqvist, who purchased it in 1907. In addition to butcher Bergqvist, merchants Jaffe and E.M. Pitkänen also ran shops in the building. In 1910, the originally two-part building was combined into one.
During the Winter War, the house was bombed, and the central section had to be rebuilt. Over the years, it has housed various organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Pentecostal church, and the game management association.
In 1984, the main building was renovated and converted into modern residential spaces. Today, the courtyard is home to five permanent households, and there are also a couple of commercial units operating in the building.
Reminders of the past include the cobblestone courtyard and meat hooks still hanging in the cellar.
