The park is named after history, specifically the Crimean War. In 1855, the British navy attacked the fortress of Hamina on Hamina Bay. The story goes that the British navy fired three thousand shots towards Hamina, while 202 shots were fired in defense from Hamina. The attack failed, and the British navy retreated.
