Sanginjoki

Sanginjoki
Sanginjoki is a cohesive forest area located about 20 kilometers from the center of Oulu. The area features characteristics of natural forests, old spruce forests, bogs, and dry ridge landscapes. Endangered species of dwarf plants and rare bird species have been observed in Sanginjoki.
The trails in the Sanginjoki Nature Reserve are suitable for day trips or overnight hikes. The trails are easy to navigate as there are no steep ascents or otherwise difficult terrain, and thanks to several campfire sites, the rest stops are not too far apart.
The nature reserve is a popular spot for berry picking and mushroom hunting. Many bird species from old forests can be observed there, such as the Siberian jay, bluethroat, northern woodpecker, capercaillie, and the sparrow owl. The Sanginjoki River is a popular fishing area, with varying stretches of calm and rapids. Along the river, there are several places to make a fire, and a path runs along the riverbank.
