Hailuoto Brewery’s Restaurant Mallassauna offers surprising and delicious experiences in Pikisaari, Oulu. Our menu has something for every appetite—big or small. The name Mallassauna refers to a malting house. Pikisaari was once home to a brewery and a distillery, and barley was malted to supply both. The building itself appears in the 1884 site plan of the Pikisaari distillery and was originally built in 1869. The malting plant was later converted into a dyeing facility for a wool factory. After 1963, the property first came under the ownership of the Hyry real estate partnership and then the City of Oulu in 1978. Before 1995, when a vocational school began operating in the building, it was used as a secondhand store. The premises were renovated in 1997.
