The spirit of Vainiola, which underwent a renovation designed by architect Alvar Aalto in the 1940s, has been preserved to this day. The guesthouse’s air-conditioned rooms are furnished with Artek furniture, including several unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. The bathroom textiles are designed by textile artist Johanna Gullichsen.
Vainiola offers six double rooms spread over two floors, one triple room, and a double suite. Each room has its own private bathroom. On the ground floor, guests can enjoy a spacious living room, a dining room, and a small kitchen. The rooms feature beautiful views of the river and park.
The building was originally constructed in the 1890s as the home of the local ironworks manager. The manager was the right-hand man of the ironworks owner—a man trusted to oversee operations during his employer’s absence—and was therefore provided with a fine home in a prime location for himself and his family. In 1942, Alvar Aalto designed a comprehensive renovation of the entire house, which included significant changes, such as the removal of two balconies. The building was renovated again in 2011.
