The Iso-Huppio bird tower is located in the Iso-Huppio raised bog, which is protected under the Nature Conservation Act and is an area of diverse and valuable natural features.
The area includes the Iso-Huppio and Kiukaanmaanaukea bog areas. Almost in its natural state, as a unified bog area, Iso-Huppio is a prime example of inland Finnish bog nature.
According to the Finnish Bird Atlas, around a hundred bird species have been observed nesting in Iso-Huppio. The rarest species in the area include the ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus). Other bird species found in the area include the golden plover (Pluvialis apricaria), crane (Grus grus), and short-eared owl (Asio flammeus). The osprey (Pandion haliaetus) has also been spotted in Iso-Huppio. Among the animal species, the otter (Lutra lutra) and the lynx (Lynx lynx) can be found in the area.
The path to the bird tower leads from Hyöty Niemiintie, under the power lines. There is also parking for a few cars at the start of the trail. The bird tower is located on the right side of the path when you reach the bog, behind a hummocky pine-covered promontory that juts into the center of the bog.
