In the landscapes of Enoveden-Luonteri in Juva, there are many fascinating natural sites, one of which is the Kololahti giant's kettles.
Giant's kettles are depressions or cylindrical holes worn into rock, originating from the Ice Age thousands of years ago. They were formed by the swirling waters of melting glaciers, which rotated stones or rocks in rock crevices. These grinding or 'milling' stones have, over decades and centuries, worn out the visible depressions in the rock.
In Kololahti, there are three separate giant's kettles. The width of the kettles ranges from a few dozen centimeters to about two meters, and their depth is several tens of centimeters. The giant's kettles are surrounded by majestic rocky cliffs, and from near the kettles, there are stunning views over Lake Saimaa’s Enoveden.
A marked trail leading to the giant's kettles starts from the road between Koikkala and Pihlajasalo.
