The portrait depicts Walborg Jacobsson and was painted in 1890 by the artist Elin Danielson-Gambogi. Walborg was eleven years old at the time. The painting, executed in oil on canvas, was created in the corner room on the second floor of Alfred and Hélène Jacobsson’s home at Hämeenkatu 30. That same year, it was exhibited in Turku under the title Two Friends.
Through the window in the painting, one can glimpse the Aura River and the houses on the opposite bank. Walborg is seated on a small sofa, her gaze directed at the family dog, Doddy, who sits on the windowsill. Many of the objects depicted in the painting are still preserved today in the collections of the museum Ett Hem.
Walborg Jacobsson (1879–1974) was the foster daughter of Alfred and Hélène, and also Alfred’s niece. In 1903, she married the engineer Edwin Eager. Together, they had three children: Jane Ellen, Bernard, and Winifred.
