The desk belonged to Axel Haartman’s father, Hugo Haartman. On the cupboard door is a drawing by Axel depicting himself as a young boy sitting under his father’s desk. He named it My first Room. The desk is most likely made in Turku, by the company N. Bomans Ångsnickeri. There are several other pieces of furniture in Casa Haartman manufactured by N. Bomans Ångsnickeri, for example, in the salon and the bedroom.

On top of the desk is an additional board made of plywood with a side compartment.  This board was an attempt by Axel  create more space for his papers. Unfortunately, it wasn’t totally successful and his desk remained a “chaotic mess of papers”, according to himself.
