On the table by the banister is a hinged copper case with decorated sides and lid. This case was made by Axel Haartman and given to Hedvig as an engagement gift  in 1897. The text along the sides reads “This was His Gift to Her” and “Hedvig Stolpe”, which was Hedvig’s maiden name. Inside the lid, Axel painted a romantic version of the moment when he gives her the case.
