Estructura Habuk
The Habuc pyramid, whose name in Maya language means "water dress" (ha = water, buk = dress), is one of the most important pre-Hispanic constructions in Izamal. It is located south of the current main square, between the streets 35 by 37 and 26 by 28. This structure is composed of a large platform of approximately 90 meters on each side and 3.80 meters high. Above it rises an elevated plaza 30 meters long and 25 meters wide, delimited by four buildings. Its design is evidence of the architectural planning of the ancient Maya. The pyramid has two clearly identified construction stages. The first corresponds to the Early Classic period (250-600 A.D.) and the second to the Terminal Classic (800-1000 A.D.). However, the ceramic vestiges found in the area indicate that the occupation of the site dates back to the Middle Preclassic (700-450 B.C.), which makes it one of the oldest structures in the city.
