Renowned American artist James Turrell brought his first Skyspace-like work to Monterrey: a 700m² chamber located in the Plaza Florecimiento in DistritoTec's Central Park, inaugurated on February 22, 2022 in collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Turrell is an iconic figure of the Light & Space movement, known for transforming light and space into deeply contemplative and immersive experiences. His inner chamber is activated twice a day - at sunrise and sunset - generating a unique connection between the viewer and the sky through a sequence of lights designed by the artist himself.
With this piece, Turrell adds his third astronomical work in Mexico, along with Agua de Luz in Yucatán and Encounter at the Botanical Garden in Culiacán. A work dedicated to the memory of Don Eugenio Garza Sada and Eugenio Garza Lagüera, and the most recent milestone of the public art program of @distritotec, which for more than eight years has been committed to art as a way of building community. 🌅
