Lat. Fuchsia

The cultivation of fuchsia became increasingly common towards the end of the 19th century. It was considered a typical funeral flower and therefore not seen as an appropriate gift for occasions such as birthdays. In 1832, Fuchsia fulgens was crossed with Fuchsia magellanica, and all modern fuchsias descend from this hybrid. Fuchsias can survive the winter if brought indoors before the first frost, watered sparingly, and stored in a cool, bright location.
