In the Sarkaslampi area you can see rock paintings depicting a moose and a boat. In addition, at the base of a cliff on the east shore of Ristilampi—whose shape resembles a giant’s pothole—there is a prehistoric quartz quarry in a coarse-grained granite pegmatite dyke. The trail winds through varied and challenging terrain for approximately 6 km.
There are no campfire sites along the path within the nature reserve itself, but make sure to detour a couple of kilometres north from the Sarkaslampi parking area to Karihiekka! Alongside Sarkaslampi, Karihiekka is one of the Juva Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark destinations: the site features a visitor harbour, campfire spots and a restroom building.
