The natal lily or bush lily is related to the amaryllis and was brought to Europe in the mid-19th century. It became more common in Finland around the turn of the 20th century. The natal lily often blooms in late winter or spring and thrives in a small, tight pot. After flowering, the plant benefits from a period of rest, as its roots are sensitive to overwatering. It grows slowly, producing only a few new leaves each year. The plant is propagated through offsets, but it takes 3 to 4 years before they begin to bloom.
