Skolt Sámi dwelling sites were situated near good fishing and hunting grounds. The sod-covered log huts were built on southern hillsides within reach of lakes, or on top
of ridges. The dwelling sites connected with reindeer hunting were in a place where
the movements of the wild reindeer could be seen.

Tool for softening hides

This tool was used to soften reindeer, moose, seal and cattle hides. The hide was placed between the short planks in the middle where it softened as the tool was rotated by pushing on the wings. The leather was used for straps, harnesses, etc.
