Kellankoski Rapids spans about 600 metres in length and 50–60 metres in width, beginning with a wide, arch-shaped headwater where the flow starts fiercely before calming toward the lower reaches. The banks feature fishing piers and wading spots, offering anglers safe and easy access to prime locations. Known for its large wild brown trout, Kellankoski also provides excellent chances to catch grayling in the gentler downstream sections.
The area is also home to the Kellankoski Hydropower Plant, originally completed in 1930 by Kellankosken Voima Oy. The river splits into two channels — one hosting a power dam, the other a bottom dam — which together create a two-metre drop for energy production while keeping part of the river flowing freely. The current power plant, completed in 2000, continues this legacy of small-scale, local energy generation.
Kellankoski belongs to the “Wild Trout Pro” classified Konnevesi Rapids area, where all fishing follows strict sustainability rules to protect the valuable natural trout population. It stands as a living symbol of coexistence between nature, fishing and renewable energy, offering an unforgettable experience in the heart of Central Finland.
