Located between Liesvesi and Vanginvesi, Pesiäissalmi is part of the Rautalampi water route and the Konnevesi–Laukaa paddling trail. The waters of the strait flow for about 200 metres directly north – an uncommon direction in Finnish lakes. This rare current makes Pesiäissalmi a special destination for paddlers and landscape enthusiasts.
Seven small islands enrich the view, giving the landscape rhythm and character. The atmosphere is peaceful and contemplative. In the past, the water of Pesiäissalmi was believed to have healing powers – it was said that bathing in it brought vitality and wellbeing. The name “Pesiäissalmi” itself is thought to derive from this tradition of washing and renewal.
During earlier decades, when the old bridge still stood, Pesiäissalmi was also a popular dance spot, especially on Midsummer’s Eve. Music, laughter and the shimmer of the summer night mingled with the gentle sound of flowing water. Today, Pesiäissalmi remains a place to pause, reflect and experience the tranquil beauty of Konnevesi’s living waters.
