Welcome to Suomenlinna! Have you seen the church tower yet? There’s a lighthouse there, and it’s my job to watch over the beacon. The lighthouse has been guiding travellers at sea for almost a hundred years. In the autumn, I go fishing and admire the shore cliffs of the fortress from my boat. When the fortress was built, herring was fished as far away as the waters of Parainen, since thousands of builders had to be fed. Even today, it gets very busy here with one million guests visiting Suomenlinna every year. It’s lovely to see you here, too!
