Amid the majestic pine forests of Paimio stands a true gem of Finnish architecture and one of Finland’s nationally significant built cultural environments – the Paimio Sanatorium. Originally built in the 1930s as a tuberculosis sanatorium, this masterpiece of functionalist design was created by architect Alvar Aalto and his wife, Aino Aalto.
