The humpback whale is the 5th largest whale in the world. It grows to 13-16m long / 25000-45000kg, which makes it slightly longer and heavier than a 50-seater bus. It is known for its singing. Listen to its song either here or in the exhibition!
Whales are mammals whose ancestors lived on dry land and "moved back” to the ocean some 45-50 million years ago.
This skeleton is missing two vertebra, because it was too long to fit in the exhibition!
