The moist winds coming from the Pacific Ocean cool and condensate as they hit the Rocky Mountains. That’s why there are even temperate rainforests on the Western side of the mountains, but on the eastern side, the prairie is dry.

The Burrowing owl nests in burrows dug by the Black-tailed prairie dogs, Chipmunks and other small animals. The owl typically runs after its prey. On the menu are invertebrates, small mammals and lizards.
