The association Konstsamfundet r.f. was founded in 1940 by Amos Anderson. Anderson was a businessman and entrepreneur, and a patron of the arts and culture. During his lifetime, he built up a considerable fortune that is managed by the Art Society.
Today, Föreningen Konstsamfundet is a forward-thinking organization, owning and managing the museum, among others Amos Rex in the Glass Palace, the Amos Anderson's home on Yrjönkatu 27, and Söderlångvik Manor on Kimito Island.
Hufvudstadsbladet Abwhich publishes Hufvudstadsbladet, Västra Nyland and Östnyland, is currently 49% owned by Konstsamfundet. The majority owner is now Bonnier News, which after a directed issue in early summer 2023 owns 51% of the company.
On the other side of Lasipalatsi Square in central Helsinki, Kulturkasernen, Helsinki's former bus station, is currently being renovated. Kulturkasernen will be an art, culture and entertainment center, a new urban living room for Helsinki residents and others. The property is owned by Konstsamfundet. The renovation will be completed in autumn 2023. Amos Rex, the Glass Palace Square and the Culture Barracks together form an urban hub Lasipalatsi block.
Söderlångvik Manor in Dragsfjärd generates a stable direct return and provides some diversification of the association's investment portfolio. The manor on Kimito Island is approximately 7,000 hectares. The main return comes from forestry, which consists of about 4,300 hectares of forest. The apple orchards are one of the largest in Finland and consist of about 50,000 trees on 20 hectares. In recent years, Söderlångvik Manor has also invested more than before in the development of the tourism industry, for example by investing in the museum in the character building and in the manor's restaurant.
Konstsamfundet is also a partner in the publishing house Schildts & Söderströms.
