Myllyharju got its name from six windmills built in the 18th century. These were removed in the early 1900s as their noise disturbed the visitors of the bustling spa town and the lord of Bonga Castle. To enhance visitor comfort, trees were planted, and a promenade was built.
Today, the Myllyharju walking route starts at Loviisa Church and follows the ridge, featuring informational signs about the area's nature and history. Along the way, there are benches engraved with lyrics from famous songs. The highlight of the route is at Kukkukivi, where architect K. Hjelt’s Art Nouveau-style observation tower, built in 1906, offers stunning views, reaching as far as the Svartholm sea fortress.
The route continues through Boulogne Forest to Loviisa’s old town, known for its dense 19th-century wooden houses. Along the way, charming cafés and restaurants offer a perfect opportunity to experience the town’s rich café culture.
💡 Tip: After your walk, treat yourself to a delicious meal or coffee and pastry at one of Loviisa’s cozy old-town cafés!
